Veteran Tamil actor Delhi Ganesh, renowned for his exceptional versatility in supporting roles, passed away on November 9, 2024, at the age of 80 in Chennai, after a prolonged illness. His body has been kept at his residence in Ramapuram, where friends, family, and fans have gathered to pay their respects. The last rites are scheduled for November 11.
Delhi Ganesh’s family confirmed the news, stating, “With deep sorrow, we inform that our father Mr. Delhi Ganesh passed away on 9th November at 11:30 pm.”
Ganesh, whose career spanned over four decades and included more than 400 films, was a beloved figure in Tamil cinema. Known for his dynamic performances, he seamlessly portrayed a range of characters, from comedic roles to villainous and emotional supporting parts. He shared the screen with legendary stars like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
His cinematic journey began in 1976 with Pattina Pravesam under K. Balachander, who gave him the name “Delhi Ganesh.” Though he took on lead roles, including Engamma Maharani (1981), it was his supporting roles in films like Sindhu Bhairavi (1985), Nayakan (1987), Michael Madana Kama Rajan (1990), and Thenali (2000) that earned him critical acclaim.
Ganesh was honored with numerous awards, including the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for Pasi (1979) and the Kalaimamani Award in 1994. He also ventured into television and short films, such as his role in What If Batman Was from Chennai and Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru (2016).
Prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, and Kollywood stars like Rajinikanth and Vijay, expressed their condolences following Ganesh’s passing.
