Story of Sri Kedareswara Vrata:

Once, in Naimisharanya, the sages, including Shaunak, asked the Soot Mahamuni about the Vrata for a couple to live harmoniously, like the divine couple Adi and Adi-devata. Soot Mahamuni then explained the Kedareswara Vrata to them.

The Great Assembly of Lord Shiva:

In the past, Lord Shiva, with Parvati, resided in the Kailasa mountains. The divine assembly of gods, sages, spirits, and celestial beings gathered to praise Lord Shiva. During this event, a devotee named Bhringuriti danced joyously, gaining Shiva’s blessings.

Parvati’s Question to Shiva:

Observing Shiva’s blessings to Bhringuriti, Parvati, feeling left out, questioned Shiva as to why the other beings were honoring him and not her. In response, Shiva explained that supreme yogis, like her, do not need such offerings.

Parvati’s Tapasya:

Disheartened, Parvati left Kailasa and went to the Gautama Ashrama to perform tapasya, seeking the same divine powers as Shiva. Upon reaching the Ashrama, she met Sage Gautama, who advised her to perform the Kedareswara Vrata.

Completion of the Vrata:

Following the guidance of Sage Gautama, Parvati performed the Kedareswara Vrata with utmost devotion. Pleased with her devotion, Shiva granted her half of His body, making him Ardhanareshwara. Since then, Shiva has been revered as Ardhanareshwara.

Benefits of the Vrata:

By performing this Vrata with full devotion and reading the story while applying kumkum, couples will experience an increase in love, lead a life of happiness without hardships, and attain the divine presence of Shiva.
