In a heated political confrontation, BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has accused Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of following the ideology of Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi. This comment comes as Revanth Reddy proposes installing the world’s largest Mahatma Gandhi statue at Bapu Ghat on the Musi River.
Criticism of Gandhi Statue Proposal
KTR questioned the motives behind the statue plan. He pointed out that Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, disapproved of the idea. According to Tushar, the funds should instead address pressing social issues, such as poverty alleviation. KTR added, “Mahatma Gandhi would not approve of a Godse follower leading this initiative.”
Moreover, KTR alleged that the project is a cover for corruption. He stated that the Musi Riverfront Development Project involves large-scale financial mismanagement. This, he claimed, is a tactic to divert attention from other unfulfilled promises.
Unkept Poll Promises Highlighted
KTR criticized Revanth Reddy for not delivering on earlier commitments, such as providing one tola gold for the marriages of poor girls. He questioned the logic behind allocating ₹1.50 lakh crore for the Musi project while failing to fulfill promises that directly impact citizens.
Additionally, KTR accused the BJP of staying silent on the alleged misuse of funds. He called out BJP leaders for labeling Telangana as an “ATM for Congress” without taking concrete action to address these allegations.
Defending KCR’s Leadership
While attacking Revanth Reddy, KTR praised K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for his contributions to Telangana. He said the BRS government transformed the state into a national leader in agriculture, electricity supply, and welfare programs. KTR also noted the success of schemes like Mission Bhagiratha, which ensured safe drinking water for every household.
KTR dismissed Revanth Reddy’s claim of defeating KCR politically, stating, “Many tried to end KCR’s influence and failed. Who are you to succeed where others couldn’t?”
Political Tensions Rise in Telangana
The war of words between KTR and Revanth Reddy highlights the growing political tension in Telangana as the state approaches elections. Both the BRS and the Congress are intensifying their campaigns, making bold accusations to secure voter confidence.
