The NDA government has been making swift reforms within its first six months. After changes in sand and liquor policies, the focus has now shifted to the education sector. IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh has announced the revival of a mid-day meal scheme for government intermediate colleges.
Reviving an Impactful Initiative
The mid-day meal scheme was first launched by the TDP government in 2018. Its goal was to reduce dropout rates by providing free meals to students in junior colleges. This initiative helped students from economically weaker backgrounds continue their education. However, the YCP government halted the program after coming to power.
Recently, Lokesh observed a significant number of students dropping out after Class X. He noted that financial difficulties might be the primary reason. By reinstating the mid-day meal scheme, Lokesh aims to encourage families to support higher education for their children.
Lokesh’s Vision for Education
Lokesh emphasized the importance of tackling dropout rates. He stated,
“This program will help students stay in school and complete their studies. It is a simple yet effective way to boost the education sector and improve the academic future of the state.”
The scheme is expected to reduce dropouts significantly and positively impact thousands of students.
Statewide Parent-Teacher Meeting on December 7
As part of this initiative, Lokesh announced a statewide parent-teacher meeting on December 7. This meeting aims to involve stakeholders and explain the program’s benefits. CM Chandrababu Naidu is also expected to participate, highlighting the government’s commitment to education.
Conclusion: A Step Towards Progress
By reviving this thoughtful program, Nara Lokesh is addressing key challenges in the education sector. This initiative is not just about providing meals—it’s about building a brighter future for Andhra Pradesh’s youth.
