Director Ram Gopal Varma has once again found himself under scrutiny by the police. Allegations of making objectionable remarks against TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu, Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) have led to the filing of a case in Maddipadu Police Station, Prakasam District, on November 10.
Case Details
Following a complaint filed by Maddipadu TDP General Secretary M. Ramalingam, the Maddipadu police registered a case against Varma under the IT Act. As part of the investigation, they issued 41A notices, summoning him to appear on November 19.
However, Varma requested a week’s extension citing prior shooting commitments. His lawyer submitted a formal letter to the police seeking additional time.
High Court Ruling
Varma approached the High Court with a quash petition to dismiss the case. The High Court, however, rejected the petition and advised him to apply for anticipatory bail if necessary. The court also emphasized that Varma must appear in person during the investigation.
Further Police Action
As Varma failed to appear on the initially scheduled date, the Maddipadu police issued fresh notices, instructing him to be present for questioning on November 25. Preparations have been made at the Ongole Rural Police Station, with questions ready for interrogation.
Deeper Implications
This case seems to be linked to Varma’s promotional activities for the election-themed movie Vyuham. While Varma is no stranger to making controversial statements about political leaders, this time, the matter has escalated to legal action.
