On Thursday, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy emphasized that Congress would urge the Centre to include caste data in the national census scheduled for next year. This step, he explained, is crucial for providing “political, education, and employment reservations” by potentially breaking the 50% cap on quotas. As a result, it could lead to better representation and fairness in these areas.
Speaking at the Children’s Day celebrations in Telangana, Reddy further stressed the significance of the ongoing caste survey. He pointed out that the survey must succeed in order to achieve its objectives, including increasing reservation quotas and ensuring resource allocation based on population proportions. Moreover, he dispelled false claims circulating among the public. Contrary to what some are suggesting, Reddy clarified that the government benefits would not be reduced if caste details are shared in the survey. Instead, he assured, the initiative would actually increase the benefits for eligible beneficiaries.
In addition, Reddy described the caste survey as a “mega health check-up for society.” By collecting relevant data, he said, the government would be in a better position to extend welfare schemes to all communities, ensuring that no one is left behind.
